True Devotion...
How understanding lyrics can help us with the intention of NOW
True devotion is not what Earth, Wind, and Fire sang at the beginning of Devotion. I have been listening to the song on repeat lately. It is a reminder that there is a love song of abiding commitment I have to my people. That love is patient, diligent, loyal, and long suffering. I have some work to do on the kind part. I feel a sense of urgency to this affirmative devotion and I am sure it has everything to do with the external existential crisis happening on a daily basis in this country balanced with a warrior mother who I get to watch wage warfare on cancer (and she is WINNING). There is something about this convergence of completely separate battles that has me absolutely determined to fight the battle—and the one that is uniquely mine.
